Jel Jongen was born in Heerlen in 1962
He graduated in 1984 at the Hilversum Conservatory studying Jazz and Popmusic.

As a lead-trombonist he played with several Dutch and International orchestras over a large period of time.
The Skymasters, Peter Herbolzheimer’s Rhythm Combination and Brass, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Metropole Orchestra, the Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw, Dutch Jazzorchestra, the Netherlands Concert Jazzband and many others.

As founder of the Jayhorns (1993) he’s also responsible for all the hornarrangements played by the Jayhorns.

Jel has been working on countless music-arrangements for all kinds of bands, ranging from popbands to Symphony Orchestras.
